Visit Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha, with a private guide and car from Kathmandu.
Leave Kathmandu by private car and drive to Lumbini, which takes about seven to eight hours. Road works can make the trip longer, and a past traveller advised flying instead. You spend the night in a local hotel.
Spend about seven hours in Lumbini with your guide. You visit the Lumbini Garden and the stone pillar raised by Emperor Ashoka around 245 BC to mark the Buddha's birthplace, the Maya Devi Temple, which has sculptures and carvings, and the Puskarini pond, where Maya Devi is said to have bathed before the birth.
Return to Kathmandu by private car, about seven to eight hours, and be dropped at your hotel.
