Gandaki, Central Nepal
The Annapurna region sits inside Nepal's largest protected area and offers the widest choice of treks in the country, from three-day walks to the classic Annapurna Circuit over the 5,416-metre Thorong La pass. Popular routes include Poon Hill (about 3,210 metres), famous for sunrise over Dhaulagiri and Annapurna, and the Annapurna Base Camp trek, which ends inside a ring of giant peaks at 4,130 metres. Trails pass Gurung and Magar villages, rhododendron forests and tea houses, and most start near Pokhara. The best seasons are March to May and October to November.
